Phone’s away: help your child thrive from 0-5
This week saw the launch of our new public health campaign “Phones Away – Talk and Play”, encouraging parents and carers to put down their phones and connect more with their children. Backed by the UK Government’s Best Start in Life programme, the campaign is a partnership between Public Health Cornwall, Together for Families, and local health services. A recent survey found that many parents in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly worry about how often they use their phones around their children. Research shows that too much phone use can affect a child’s brain development, especially from birth to age five. The campaign promotes simple activities like talking, playing, and reading together, highlighting how everyday moments help children learn and grow.

Help Keep an Older Person Safer in 2025
Did you know? While cold calling itself is allowed, traders must respect “No Cold Callers” notices – it’s actually against the law if they don’t! As a dedicated home care provider since 1980, we’ve made it our mission to help protect older and disabled people in our community. We’re proud to have distributed over 250,000 of these protective stickers since 2019.
Do you know of someone who would like to receive one of these? If so, call us on 01603 764567

Try out a hybrid or electric car through our new weekend car club
Our low emission pool cars are now available for hire at weekends through a new pay-as-you-drive car club. Vehicles can be hired out through a new pay-as-you-drive car club run by Co Wheels CIC. The trial project is designed to give residents access to low-cost, clean car travel and maximise the use of the cars outside of council working hours. Co Wheels cars will be initially available to hire from six Cornwall Council office bases in Bodmin, Liskeard, Penzance, Pool, St Austell and Truro.

Worrying about the cost of prescriptions or getting to medical appointments should never get in the way of your wellbeing.
The good news is that, for many people, there’s support out there to help with things like getting to hospital appointments, paying for prescriptions, and even covering the cost of glasses or dental care.
Here are a few ways the NHS in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly can help.

Workwell app
A new free app providing mental health support at your fingertips has been launched in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. There’s also the chance to connect with a WorkWell coach at the touch of a button, who can offer personalised 1-2-1 support on staying in or returning to work if you’re having physical or mental health struggles. The app can be downloaded via the App Store or Google Play.

Time to cash in your young person’s Child Trust Fund?
If your little one’s all grown up it could be time to cash in their Child Trust Fund.
These trust funds are long-term tax-free savings accounts set up for children born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011 with the Government making an initial deposit into the account.
The young person can claim their fund when they turn 18. The average amount is £2,200, but hundreds of thousands of accounts remain unclaimed.
